In conjunction with World Kidney Day 2011, The National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF) collaborated with the Malaysian Society of Nephrology and the Ministry of Health to organise a series of activities.
The chosen theme for this year is titled “Protect your kidneys, save your heart” and the first event was held last Sunday, 13 March in LG2 Orange Wing at Sunway Pyramid.
The World Kidney Day project aims at helping to raise awareness among the public and government officials regarding the importance of the kidney and the dangers of chronic kidney disease.
“Chronic kidney disease is a major health risk for heart disease patients especially if they have diabetes as they are more likely to die from a heart disease,” said Senior Nephrologist and Physician as well as chairman of World Kidney Day 2011, Dr Tan Seong Hoe.
The main highlight were healthy cooking demonstration by NKF Ambassador, Chef Wan and also a free NKF Life Check Mobile Health Screening for the public.
Chef Wan stated that the objective of the free screening is to create awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention of kidney related diseases.
Other exciting activities such as kidney care and organ exhibition, lucky draw and games were conducted as well.
There were many participants who came for the health screening and most were between the ages of 30 till 60.
Participant, Chong Kung Meng, 35, commented, “Since the health screening is free, I brought my grandmother here to Sunway Pyramid just to check her health condition.”
The next following event will be a 5km World Kidney Day Run, followed by huge carnival on March 20 at Dataran Merdeka.
