Taylor’s will be defending its Mocktail title and looking to recapture the Cocktail Trophy as aspiring bartenders from universities and colleges fight it out at the Monin Cup 2011.
Organised by Monin, a premium syrup brand, the inter-varsity beverage competition will be hosted by Berjaya University College.
Bachelor’s in Culinary Arts and Food Service Management Programme Director Joaquim Dias Soeiro is looking forward to the competition.
“As Taylor’s defends the Mocktail title, it is now time for us to take back the Cocktail Trophy,” he said.
Prize money for the Cocktail and Mocktail categories will be RM800 for the winner, RM500 for first runner-up and RM300 for second runner-up.
Participants will be judged based on the following criteria; grooming standards, mis-en-place or setting, hygienic practices, speed, organisation and presentation, technical skills, taste, name, colour, originality and interaction with the music.
The competition is welcoming participation from MSU, Sunway, UCSI, Legend, KDU, YTL, Flamingo and INT colleges and universities.
When asked about his hopes for the contest, Soeiro is expecting a fair competition and a great experience for the participants.
“[Not to mention] a good organised competition and enjoyable moments for all,” he added.
The rules for this year’s competition will be similar to previous ones, except for a slight change to the semi-final time limit.
“Only the duration for the semi-final is slightly altered, in which the candidate will be given approximately three minutes instead of five minutes to perform,” Soeiro said.
Taylor’s student Stevan Heng won the Mocktail Creation title last year when the Monin Cup was hosted by Taylor’s University at the Lakeside Campus.
The submission of the fiche technique is due on July 10 followed by semi-finals on June 25 at Berjaya University College. The finals will be held at the same venue on July 23.
