Inaugural graduation ceremony at Lakeside


BANDAR SUNWAY: Taylor’s University held its graduation ceremony at its newly built Lakeside Campus with pomp and pride with 1,251 graduands receiving their scrolls.



This is the first time the university held its graduation ceremony at its own premises at the Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH) in two sessions, one at 11am and another at 3pm, on Oct 31. University’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Hassan Said said it was a proud moment as the students were the first batch to graduate after Taylor’s was granted the university status.

He said the university had also begun its Master’s program and it was another recognition for the university.
“It is the cherry on top of the icing, to be awarded university status at the same time have our Master’s program up and running,” he said. “You leave us today as graduates with an international outlook, critical thinking abilities effective communication and lifelong learning skills.”

He said the exceptional standards set by Taylor's had continuously attracted some of the best and brightest minds from around the world.
“We are glad to have been able to offer you the same kind of quality and assurance in your education as we have done with the 65,000 students who have graduated under Taylor’s name,” he said in his opening address.

Taylor’s University Council chairman Datuk Loy Teik Ngan said the recent Tier 5 Excellent rating under the Rating System for Institutions of Higher Learning (SETARA) by Higher Education Ministry certified that the University’s standing as one of the premier education institutions in the country. It was another feather in the cap when Taylor’s was upgraded to University status, he said.

“This mark of trust from the Ministry further enhances our standing as a respected institution of higher learning and enables us to better compete globally,” he said.
“Remember that you have an advantage over others for you have been put through a comprehensive learning system at Taylor’s University, which I can confidently say, has shaped you into intentional lifelong learners who are able to seek out and embrace opportunities for success,” he said.
Tan Sri Justice James Foong, who officiated at the morning session, said that he was proud to see the latest batch of quality graduands produced by Taylor’s.

Citing the Valedictorian Yap Ka Wah as an exemplary student, he said Taylor’s had proved its mettle as a higher learning institution offering quality education.
Institution of Corporate Responsibility chairman Datuk Johan Roslan officiated the after session in which 816 students received their scrolls.

Yap, who completed his Diploma in Communication, said his two-and-half years at Taylor’s was a memorable one which posed various challenges.
“The entire valedictorian experience was unbelievable and definitely a memorable one. I did not expect to be nominated for the valedictorian spot in the first place,” he said when addressing the graduands.
Students who received their scrolls were those who pursued degree courses and diplomas.

The degrees were in Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Media Management), Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Applied Finance, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Management (Marketing), Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Accounting and Finance, Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management (Hons).

The diplomas awarded were Diploma in Communication, Diploma in Hospitality Management, Diploma in Tourism Management, Diploma in Culinary Arts, Diploma in Architectural Technology, Diploma in Construction Management, Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Diploma in Interior Design and Diploma in Business.
