Music Review

K’naan
Troubadour

Stop us if you’ve heard it before, but boy who grew up in the war-ravaged city of Mogadishu, Somalia made it into the tough industry of music, and boy did he make it big. K’naan, or better known for his now famous beat “Wavin’ Flag” featuring David Guetta and will.i.am that was showcased as one of the official FIFA World Cup 2010 songs.

The ability to churn out songs that goes right down to the roots of hip-hop is one that has escaped most of the hip-hop artists nowadays, and Troubadour carries easy-going and incredibly fun and engaging beats that most could relate to. No harm that the man has the ability to rap us into a dance.

Eminem
Recovery

American rapper Eminem was missed by many during his hiatus, and seems to be back with a vengeance now, with the release of his seventh studio album, Recovery. Tracks on this album seemed to be more emotionally driven than the rest, which is understandable given the trials and tribulations that the rapper has had to go through. Single ‘Not Afraid’ was released recently on the website and has received heavy downloads; and with good reason.

‘Love the Way You Lie’ featuring Rihanna is foretold to be a mainstream sweetheart, what with the sentimental background that surrounds failing relationships. This return with ‘Recovery’ is a blatant show of Eminem trying to peel back and reveal what he couldn’t with ‘Relapse’, and we say that this one is a winner.

Keane
Night Train

Keane’s latest effort, Night Train is about to give piano pop dominators One Republic a run for their money. Injecting a much ‘poppier’ sound together with a stronger synth voice, Keane has altogether banished their strictly piano pop only image. The acoustic guitar, whilst still there, has now been brilliantly married to the winding flow of the synth, providing the album a nice and easy sort of balance to its music instead of it being overtly leaning towards one side.
