Taylor’s squash team emerged victorious in the MAPCU Squash 2011 held on May 14 at University Nottingham Malaysia Campus.

In the tournament that saw teams from Nottingham University, HELP University, UCSI University and INTI University College (Nilai) taking part, Taylor’s beat all four of their opponents comprehensively to retain the title they won last year.

“We are delighted to win the title two times in a row,” said team Captain Jo Wen Ng.

Basketball 3 on 3: Double bronze delight for Taylor’s teams

HELP me! Taylor’s falls short against their taller opponents

Both Taylor’s male and female teams were satisfied with third place in the MAPCU Basketball 3 on 3 tournament held on May 7 at Lakeside Campus.

The boys cruised through the third place play-off match and won 20-13 against University College of Technology and Innovation (UCTI).

In the semi-finals, Taylor’s succumbed to a 6-15 loss against HELP University. Taylor’s was leading 6-4 at halftime but HELP came back strong in the second half.

“For me, winning or losing doesn’t mean anything as long as the team has spirit,” said Captain Timothy Fong Wai Kit.

HELP went on to clinch the 3 on 3 basketball title after defeating SEGI in the finals.

Similarly, the girls’ team grabbed third place by beating INTI International University 7-6 in a tight match.
Taylor’s lost to UCSI University 5-7 in a semi-final match that saw both sides missing a lot of chances.

“I am satisfied with our performance because we put up a good fight against teams with national players. It shows that as long as we work hard, we can do it,” said team Captain Thum Shea Wen.

Meanwhile, HELP University’s girls’ team beat UCSI in the final match, hence doubling their triumph in the 3 on 3 basketball tournament.

Netball: We missed the chance to defend title

Out of my way! Goal Shooter Farhana in the thick of things

Silly mistakes and pressure to repeat last year’s feat cost Taylor’s netball team the MAPCU Netball title, admitted the team.

Taylor’s fought against an experienced SEGi University college team in the finals of the netball tournament that was held at Lakeside Campus.

The match saw a lot of chances for Taylor’s, but they failed to convert.

“We were not sharp enough. Our shooting has to improve. But then again we are a reasonably new team [of two years] compared to SEGi who have been playing for four years,” said team Captain Nurazleen Naquiah bt Abdul Razak.

Taylor’s was beaten 5-7 in the competitive encounter in which they were leading at halftime.

Earlier in the semi-finals, Taylor’s beat a resilient Masterskill team 13-12 in extra time.

There was confusion on court towards the end of normal time when the referee blew the whistle due to a foul, but the Masterskill players and supporters thought the game had ended 11-10 in their favor.

However, Taylor’s Goal Shooter (GS) Nurul Farhana scored the resulting penalty shot to take the match into extra time in which Taylor’s scored twice to make their way to the finals.

In SEGi’s semi-final match, they won comfortably against University College of Technology and Innovation (UCTI), prevailing 9-6 in a fast-paced game with impressive and flowing passes.

Masterskill overcame UCTI 9-6 to grab third place much to the delight of their supporters who came dressed in their trademark pink.

Dodgeball: A storming victory

WATCH YOUR BACK! ... Taylor’s Dodgeball team in full concentration during the MAPCU dodgeball tournament held at Lakeside.

Taylor’s Lakeside Storm claimed the Malaysian Association of Private Colleges and Universities (MAPCU) Dodgeball 2011 title after beating INTI College Subang Jaya 4- 1 in the final earlier this month.

“I’m very proud of my players who have worked hard for this achievement. It is our first MAPCU Dodgeball title since the club was established in early 2010,” said team Captain Adam Riff.

The Storms topped their group in the tournament held at Lakeside Campus and breezed their way to the semi-final after beating Help University 4-1 in the second round.

Taylor’s faced tough competition in the semis going against tournament favorite USCI University, whose team has had an unbeaten run in the past three tournaments. A tight game saw both sides leveled at 2-2 at the end of normal time. The Storms then blasted their way to the final, firing deep in sudden death, making it 3-2 in their favor.

“We have met them in three finals for the past three tournaments and came out second best,” said Captain Riff.

“Although winning against them in a tough MAPCU semi-final may have been a combination of luck and determination, my players have done well to earn the satisfaction of the overall victory,” he added.

In the other semi-final match, INTI College Subang Jaya beat Masterskill University to reach the final. Later on, USCI thrashed Masterskill 6-0 to claim third place.
