New TUSC to strive for change

New council members posing with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Hassan and members of Taylor’s management

Newly elected Taylor’s University Student Council (TUSC) president Brendon Khoo Han Jin hopes for change at Taylor’s as TUSC 2011/2012 took their posts earlier this month.

“Hope gave me the strength to envision a better change for good, change for all of us,” said Khoo at the Student Council Recognition and Commissioning ceremony held on May 13 at Lakeside Campus.

Khoo added that Taylor’s University is not defined by its world-class facilities or campuses but rather by its students, lecturers, deans, administrative staff and even post graduates.

“We are what Taylor’s is all about…My mission is that by the end of our term each and everyone of us [Taylorians] are proud to say we are from Taylor’s,” said Khoo.

Answering to a question asked by Inkslingers post-ceremony, President Khoo mentioned that the council aims to integrate all the schools of Taylor’s as TUSC looks to bring change for good.
The ceremony that began with rousing performances by members of Taylor’s Symphonic band also saw Taylor’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Hassan Said sharing a few thoughts with the guests.

Prof Dr. Hassan highlighted that TUSC acts as an intermediary between students and the management.

“I hope that the Student Council appointed will continue the good work of the previous council. You [TUSC] will have to look after student welfare and find reasons for students’ unhappiness,” added Prof Dr. Hassan.

He ended his speech by congratulating the new council members while also thanking the out-going council for their hard work.

Out-going TUSC president Sim Sui Yee also gave a speech in which he thanked the Taylor’s management and students for their continuous support to the council.

“TUSC would like to convey our gratitude for all the support, consideration, and assistance and your moral support,” said Sui Yee.

He also thanked his fellow council members and congratulated the incoming ones, stating that it was time “to let the new blood continue our struggle in order to heighten TUSC towards a higher paradigm.”

Director of Student Experience Angela Pok commissioned the new council to office and presented letters of appointment to all the members while Prof Dr. Hassan presented plagues of recognition to the out-going council.

TUSC 2011/2012 consists of 27 members from 14 schools within Taylor’s University, 6 more members than its predecessor.

Hospitality student Khoo is joined by Communication students Teo Ee Shang (Vice President) and Ooi Phaik Chern (Secretary) and Business student Christopher Tan Yeung Hao (Treasurer) for the top posts in the council.
