Intimate night of wordplay
Taylorians were treated to an unusual spectacle of wordplay during “Candles and Coffee: A Night of Slam Poetry” - Taylor’s first ever slam poetry open mic event - organized by The Creativists (Elite) club on April 14.
The two hour long intimate affair welcomed a slew of spoken word enthusiasts both amateur and seasoned to put on a dynamic show of performance poetry.
The event attracted performers from both Taylors and other universities who came in droves, eager to showcase their work.
Ready to face the real world
Final year students acquired relevant information during the ‘Internship: Ready for the Real World’ talk held on April 22 at Taylor’s Student Central.
In the talk that comprised of two sessions, Assistant manager at Taylor’s Career Services Centre Izwan Mazlan explained to students the objective of doing an internship and highlighted its benefits too.
Besides that, students were also given a few essential tips to prepare themselves not only for their internship period, but for the future as well.
Applied Finance student Mohammad Hafizzuddin Seliman Hamzah said, “From my point of view, it is quite useful because it gives students more information on what they should expect and how to prepare themselves to survive in a real working environment”.
Fun with charity
As part of their charity cause, Leo Club organised the ‘Leo Charity Concert’ on April 16. Held at Lakeside Campus, the aim of the charity concert was to raise funds for World Vision Malaysia Development Fund. Profit received from the purchase of tickets was channelled to them.
With almost 250 people in attendance, the concert had 16 performances in total including beat boxing, hip hop and k-pop dances.
Leo Clubs from institutions such as Taylor’s College Subang Jaya, ACGBU, SMK Seafield, and SMK USJ 8 also participated in this event.
The art of crafting speech
“Speech Craft”, an educational and interactive workshop was conducted by Taylor’s University Toastmasters Club on April 23 and 24 at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus.
The two day intensive workshop was aimed at training participants on ways to organize effective speeches and overcome their fear of public speaking.
The secretary of Toastmasters Club Kelly Kok Peijing said, “The number of participants targeted for this workshop was about twenty-five people, and we got twenty-one people, it was quite a good number.”
She added that the workshop turned out to be a great success, as people not only attended the talks, but also joined the interactive sessions.
