Taylor’s announcement to charge for parking by June 1, 2011 provoked mixed responses from students and staff alike.
A student who requested to remain anonymous said the parking fee of RM3 per entry at the Zone J and Boardwalk areas were reasonable.
“Back in Sabah, a RM2 parking fee is normal. So I guess RM3 is still okay,” she said.
However, Law student Elaine Chin said Taylor’s should not charge since parking facilities should have already been included in the students’ fees.
“If there is really a need to charge for parking, Taylor’s should introduce season passes which would be less of a burden to students,” she said.
Meanwhile, Taylor’s staff will be charged RM60 per month to park at Zone C, D, E, F and G, which were allocated for staff.
“RM 60 is reasonable [since] parking at other universities around Subang cost between RM2 to RM3 [per entry],” Taylor’s Student Event Advisor J.B. Aravind said.
A staff who declined to be named however said that the parking charge was quite expensive.
“I think RM60 per month is a bit heavy because it means I have to pay RM720 per year for parking. If all parking areas are shaded, then that’s a different case,” he said.
Since Taylor’s announced the parking charges on their Facebook page, they have received hundreds of comments supporting or opposing the idea.
