False alarm rings real concern

Peeled off: the wall blocking the library lift

Seven students were trapped inside the library lift for about half an hour on March 29 after a false alarm was triggered in Block C.

All lifts are programmed to open after going down to the lowest level when an emergency alarm sets off.

However, seven Taylorians who were in the library lift at Block C discovered a wall blocking them once the lift opened.

“When the lift opened, I was shocked to find a wall directly in front of me,” Hospitality student Frankie Kang said.

The seven students managed to escape after several security guards used a hammer to hack through the wall.

Kang said he was concerned about the consequences should there be a real fire.
Chief Librarian Jefrina Jamaluddin said there would be a thorough investigation on the case.
Taylor’s management conducted “rectification works” on the library’s Fire Protection System a day after the incident.
