WHO gave you the right to abuse animals? Ask yourself this the next time you even think of kicking or throwing water on an animal. Yes even your simple act of throwing something at an animal is considered as abusive. Just because we are ‘superior’ in the hierarchy of the world, it does not mean we can play god with the lives of animals.
We are given the honour of being at the top of the food chain and we are blessed with the capability to think and differentiate between right and wrong. Sadly, this is hardly the case with a lot of people. They do not use their abilities to care about or for animals. There are more than 9,000 abused animals in some way or another (spca.org.my) and this was only for the period of one year – 2009.
According to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, this number is never ending, and the total abused and abandoned animals keeps on increasing not only every year, but each month. Would you abandon your baby after awhile? Would you throw hot water on your child?
Animals are living beings as well. So why is it so hard to comprehend that we should be responsible and caring for these creatures. People should be educated from a young age, on the care for animals and pets. I understand that some people do not like animals. Fine, just go about your life without animals. Just leave them alone to begin with. Do not commit to looking after an animal and giving up half way.
The younger generation may think it is fancy to have pets and take them about in chic designer bags (the really small dogs or cats that people carry), but do they know that carrying them about is abusive! Containing the animals in such small
and dark compartments will cause long term negative impact on their mental and emotional stability. Pets are meant to be free to run about and so on. Keeping them semi caged in their carry bags for hours is wrong.
Pets have apparently become fashion and status tools to be toted about by their owners. Taking your pets to the salon for grooming and so on does not mean you care for them. Caring for pets and animals starts at home with it being well fed, given a proper place to sleep, and not forgetting being loved.
These are the three basic things that people must realise that they must do. This is what should be drilled into potential pet owners. This is what children must be taught at a young age. We must strive to raise the next generation of people, who are responsible and caring.
